Home Teeth Whiteners
There is a process most people go through when considering at-home teeth whitening procedures. The first part of the process is simply recognizing that you have a yellowing or graying issue, and that this is not something you must live with for a lifetime. Recognizing there are remedies for the problem, no matter how severe, is half the battle. If your staining challenges are surface, you will see results almost immediately; however, if the staining is deeper and has been with you for a longer period of time, it will require a bit more patience on your part. Just reading about what methods are available and believing that your tooth discoloration can be helped is half the battle.
Skepticism never created a dazzling smile for anybody. Why not decide to try several products and experience for yourself the success they can give you? Don’t give up if you don’t see immediate results; your discoloration issues may simply be more resistant to over-the-counter solutions and require more frequent use or a somewhat stronger whitening solution.
Before going to your local grocery or drug store to search tooth whitening products, do your homework; ask several friends if they use teeth whitening kits and try the one most mentioned. Keep in mind, if you consult your dentist, he or she is probably going to recommend an in-office treatment, which will cost you anywhere from $400 to $1,000. If you have the time and don’t mind trying some whitening toothpastes, whitening strips, or tray-based gel kits at home, you may save yourself a good deal of money for your research.
While whitening from home, it is a good idea to curb or cut out the habits that may have been instrumental in causes the discoloration. For example, instead of drinking coffee, tea, or soda, try substituting water or lemonade. If you find you can’t do without the dark liquids, try using a straw with the colder drinks so as to minimize the exposure on your enamel. Of course, if you are a heavy smoker, the best thing to do is to quit. If the thought of quitting puts your nerves on edge, then try to cut back and make it a habit to rinse your mouth out with lemon juice and salt after smoking. You’ll probably find that task so tedious that you’ll automatically cut back on your tobacco consumption.
Foods like strawberries, lemons, apple cider vinegar, and salt are natural teeth whiteners, but few of us could consume enough of them in a day to whiten our teeth to a more satisfying level. When purchasing at-home whiteners look at the labels to determine percentages of Carbamide Peroxide—the most effective ones will contain 22% to 35% solutions. And, when using a tray-based whitening method, make sure you have a well-fitted tray. Many of the trays are too large or ill-fitted to give you the results you desire or too irritating to your gums to allow you to continue the whitening process. Good luck on your endeavors to achieve a whiter smile and a brighter outlook.
