Get Whiter Teeth

If you give yourself a wide smile in the mirror and suddenly notice your teeth are looking a bit yellow or gray, you may want to practice these six easy steps to getting whiter teeth. No matter how yellow or gray your teeth have become, much of the discoloration can be reversed by following these six simple steps. However, avoid chemical teeth whiteners if you are under the age of 16 or if you are a pregnant or lactating female.

Step One:

Let’s begin with the simple remedies. Make sure you are practicing excellent oral hygiene by brushing, flossing, and rinsing your mouth out several times a day. Not only will this prevent tooth decay, but it is the easiest and least expensive way to keep your teeth looking and feeling their best.

Step Two:

If you drink a good deal of soda, tea, coffee or other dark liquids, you may want to cut down a bit or consider drinking your soda and tea from a straw for minimal contact with your teeth. Smoking is also a great contributor to tooth discoloration. It would be a great idea to stop smoking altogether, but if you are daunted by the task then cut back, use filters, or try not to inhale and hold the smoke in your mouth.

Step Three:

Eat more natural foods, including fruits and raw vegetables. They not only provide a roughened surface in which to naturally cleanse the stains from your teeth, but eating lots of vegetables are also quite good for your overall health.

Step Four:

Try using over-the-counter teeth whitening strips and tray-based gels. While it is true these methods will take longer than those performed by professional dentists, they are also significantly less expensive and more convenient. If you decide to try these methods, be sure to follow the whitening instructions and be patient.

Step Five:

Consult with your dentist about bleaching or whitening processes conducted in his/her office. These may include laser light and gel treatments, and peroxide teeth whitening methods. The laser process has become quite popular because of its ease and minimized gum and teeth sensitivity issues.

Step Six:

Investigate the method of teeth whitening you select and make sure your expectations are reasonable. If you hope for results that are impossible to achieve, you will most likely let your dissatisfaction override your desire to whiten and simply stop your whitening regime altogether. If you have fewer expectations, you won’t be setting yourself up for failure.

No matter what the method or how successful the teeth whitening process, congratulate yourself on taking action to whiten your teeth and brighten your outlook. If your first teeth whitening procedure doesn’t work, don’t hesitate to move to the next level or step in order to create even greater success. If finances or time constraints limit prohibit you from moving on to the next step, simply repeat the step you are on more frequently. Remember, it is not only what you do to whiten your teeth, but how many times you do it.
